From Scandinavian's FB page... I so truly wish they would opt for a 747 again, or even an A380!

What is it with that livery from SAS and their old airplanes...? It's all so...., well, I used one S-word in a post further up here, so let me just stick to 'beautiful' for now.
Just look at the Caravelle for example..., you can say what you want about Boeing 757 and such, but they don't make airplanes for the eyes anymore...

I think that livery in the latest image is absolutely AMAZING... a dragon-like Viking head... clean "Scandinavian" on top, and a (I think) grey shiny belly.

Imagine if they stuck to this livery until now... everyone would have known what is SAS.

As far as I know, the livery they have now, is their 3rd livery, right?

As per the rules of the Star Alliance they have one aircraft of each category with the "Star Alliance" livery as well. I know SAS also has one in the classic livery, an Airbus A319. Lufthansa has an A320 in retro livery as well...

I also found a few shots of SAS 747s... All of them are of the "Knut Viking". First, old livery:

              Newer 90s livery:

              E-M1, E-M5

              Hurtigruten ships traveled on:
MS Richard With, MS Nordnorge, MS Nordkapp, MS Nordlys, MS Finnmarken, MS Midnatsol (Both old and new)

              Cruise ships traveled on:
MS Sunbird, former RCI Song of America, now MS Louis Olympia (August 2002)
MS Adventure of the Seas (October 2010)
MS Vision of the Seas (June 2012)

I just have to say that I REALLY LOVE the first Scandinavian livery.... I wish they would have stuck to that livery all the time, and never modernized it...

Surprised nobody has made any commentary on the current crisis of Scandinavian Airlines here yet....

Personally, I do hope they will find a way out of their massive economical problems. A Scandinavia without SAS would be a different Scandinavia... and most of all, I hope it stays Scandinavian and not Chinese or based out of the Middle East.

Here are some highlights from their long time in the air:

                      Re: SK - Scandinavian Airlines

I propose that the long term solution would be to let the present day SAS go bankrupt to clear it's financial and pension obligations.

Then form three separate entities, one for each of the three countries and in a loose affiliation, not to compete each other to death.

That would also enabling streamlining the administration and crewing, since all present personnel would be required to resign and apply for jobs with the individual companies.

The Norwegian and Swedish companies should concentrate on their domestic, inter-Scandinavia and European routes, while Denmark, with little need for domestic flights, should handle the long haul routes out of Copenhagen, as now.

The number of long haul routes should be kept to a realistic number and to destinations with sufficient Scandinavian customer base to justify flying there. Not much chance of SAS, (in any shape or form) will be able to compete with Asian and large European carrier for passengers not flying to/from Scandinavia.

The present fleet could be sold off to to the three new companies, or on the open market, to recover as much of the asset value as possible, to pay off salaries and creditors, in that order. (No "Golden handshake" for anybody, high or low)

Who should own the three new Airlines? Well, that is an open question, but should preferably be private interests, not the Governments. Some form of Government guarantee would probably be required to kick of such a bold plan, however.

If Chinese, Middle Eastern or other foreign investors should be willing to put up some of the capital, why not?? Maybe Singapore Airlines could be interested in participating in one or more of the new airlines?? You could do worse then to get a dose of their service and expertise into what is now SAS.

                        Dear ombugge,

Thank you very much for your insight and ideas. I do agree with you in most, if not all, of what you say above.

Also other experts in the field of financing and banking here in Europe says that the only way for SAS to survive would be to go bankrupt, and then start up again "fresh" and debt free.
