    SK - Scandinavian Airlines

    SK - Scandinavian Airlines.

All over the news here in Norway today, SAS is in extreme difficulties financially and may be called bankrupt soon unless something drastically is done.

Sad as it may be, when do you think these problems started for SAS?

I hope they do survive even though I know by own experience they charge much more for less, such as international flights to and from Bangkok.

The problem started when the low-cost carriers entered the scene and consumers started taking dime-a-dozen airline tickets for granted...

BTW, the other day some share-thingy (whatever it's called) was performed and the emergency is over for this time.

SAS will revert to the former all-in-one organization Scandinavian Airlines with one main office and one operator's certificate, after being four entities since 2004 (SAS-Norway, SAS/Sweden, SAS/Denmark, Intercontinental).

And the pendulum swings as the world turns.

Look at those ole' burner cans on the back of the engines. I can hear the roar/scream.

Do you know if the plane in the photo is a 30 or 50 series? I have always thought the shorter fuselage looked better. The longer 60 series seem too long for their wings.

Looks like it is OY-KTA Dan Viking.
This was a DC-8-32, later converted to -33F.

Oh Big S, stop apologising…I ‘ll go along with those sentiments!!!!

Kind of took me back to some time, seems like years ago, when I was staying overnight in the hotel at Arlanda, Stockholm (on the way to Kiruna when it couldn’t always be done in a day from here). There was some SAS anniversary or other, and a splendid exhibition with photographs and some memorabilia was on show in the Sky City area linking the terminals, where the hotel is. Best stop over imaginable!

Point taken, what is there to apologise about....?

Exept for the Boeing 737 and Fokker F-28 in 1970s Braathens SAFE livery, has there ever been a greater design flying around than the DC-8 in the old SAS dragon-livery...? Think not! If so, show it to me...

I would love to see a big collection of SAS aircrafts in this thread: especially the one aircraft which is painted in the SAS retro-livery, and the other old liveries.

SAS has a long tradition and history, so I wonder, what do you have in your files?

You are maybe to young to remember this one:

Well...., I've already used the S-word further up here, and that is about the only word I can come up with when looking at SAS-planes from that time and age....
I'm so happy I have experienced both a radial engined DC-plane (DC-6) and a Caravelle at Kristiansund airport, so that I could see the sight and hear the sound of these beauties!!
(Of course, the planes here were not SAS-planes, but Sterling (Caravelle) and Air Atlantique (DC-6) ).
Once upon a time I read why SAS (Janne Carlson) wanted to change their livery.
What can I say...? I saw what they wrote, didn't understand a thing!

What in the world, even in 2011, is wrong with the dragon livery??????

I too, wish SAS could bring back a lot more retro - liveries. The dragon was beautiful, and very Scandinavian.
