    Another buddy died

Some of you may remember me long ago posting photos of the plane I built. Yesterday I found out that the person who purchased it was killed in a crash. He was not flying my plane but he was in the plane he used to come visit me before buying mine.

Here is the preliminary NTSB report about the accident.

Then as another kicker the current owner of my old plane called to let me know that the engine threw a cylinder last week but was able to land safely in a field without injure and no damage to the plane (except for the engine).

Sorry to hear this news Dane. I hope they can work out what went wrong. I wonder how accurate the eyewitness reports from the airport were about the 'skip' the engine seemed to make whilst on the run up? The report does not say how long the runway is, would there have been enough runway left to abort take off? I hope the investigation can piece together what really happened. A tragedy that the guy did not manage to get back onto the ground safely. Obviously i know nothing of the terrain around the airport, but it sounds like the pilot was trying to avoid obstacles such as power lines whilst having no power. Certainly sounds like luck was not on his side that day. A great shame.

My aerobatic instructor died yesterday. Dammit, I'm running out of friends that fly.
