Boeing B-17 "Liberty Belle" - a total loss

Sadly, for us warbird enthusiasts, the Chicago Tribune reports that the beautiful B-17 "Liberty Belle" of the Liberty Foundation burned out in a field southeast of Aurora airport 13. June after an emergancy landing due to an engine fire. Luckily no one was injured!

I saw this on CNN yesterday or the day before.

A really sad sight indeed. Especially for all those that have spent hours and money on meticulously restoring this old big bird.

WOW! I've been down in the jungle and did not hear this sad story. I am glad that nobody was hurt but oh what an awful feeling they must have had. Standing in a corn field watching that old lady burn.

In spite of the fire I still think that airplanes should be flown. Especially the war birds. They look good sitting in a museum collecting dust but the real magic is when you hear the sound of those radial engines.
