Boeing to build U.S. Air Force tankers

FYI-Just saw on facebook that Boeing was awarded the USAF tanker contract

Yes, Boeing won the USAF, japaneese and italian market.
Strange though, that Boeing won the airborne refueling contest with a design that is 30 years old.
But what can one expect, when the company has delivered tankers to the USAF since 1948....
Airbus, on the other hand, won the tanker contest in U.K., Australia, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

I am so mad at our government. There was the initial scandal where Boeing was going to lease the tankers to the military. Oh, no that is too expensive and there may have been corruption in the selection process so let's go out for bids, lawsuits and more lawsuits to make it "fair" and save money. Now, almost 10 years later we still do not have any tankers and have wasted twice as much money going with the bid process ... and lots of lawsuits not to mention astronomical maintenance costs trying to keep the old KC-135's flying while supporting two wars on the far side of the planet.

Did anybody think that it would be politically possible for any foreign company to win this contract, even if they had the best design, the lowest price and would creating the most NEW jobs in the US???

Long live a political system where billions can be wasted on prestige projects without anybody flickering an eyelid, while they can make a BIIIG case out of the Obama family's X-mas holiday expenses. They would like to have them flying coach.
