    Aviation Accidents - General

To avoid starting a new thread for every accident, here is a general aviation accident thread.
Starting with the Trigana plane that is missing in Papua, Indonesia: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2...ple-board.html

From the names listed it appears to be mostly local Papuans on board, with a few from other parts Indonesia, but apparently no foreigners.

A freak accident at Changi Airport yesterday: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...e/2184022.html
How can the nose gear suddenly collapse on an idle plane without anybody doing anything to cause it???

I would presume this COULD potentially lead to accidents, and apparently, it already has: The Disturbing Truth About How Airplanes Are Maintained Today

In the last decade, most of the big U.S. airlines have shifted major maintenance work to places like El Salvador, Mexico, and China, where few mechanics are F.A.A. certified and inspections have no teeth.

Don't believe everything you read in a vanity magazine. If there are no FAA approved mechanics and unqualified (or bribeable?) inspectors, how can FAA issue airworthiness certificates.
You should know that there are "some" Americans with an agenda against anything foreign, either because they want to prove something, or in many cases, because they don't know any better. ("Them forn'ers are stealing our jobs and do'no not'n")"

I agree to your statement, and rest assured, I'm not so stupid that I do believe EVERYthing I read.

A Singapore Airline flight from Singapore to Milan had to turn around and make an emergency landing at Changi Airport.
After landing one of the engines caught fire, but nobody got hurt: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/...e/2907544.html

When I heard this news, it was just breaking, and the images that came out was absolutely shocking. The whole wing was all lit up.... I can't imagine if this had happened to one of those "plastic-planes" (composites).... would that have been a whole different scenario?

I think they all were very lucky... but I still can't understand why they did not evacuate passengers through the other sides before the fire was put out. Naturally, I wasn't there, and don't know the details other than the way I have seen in the media. But it sure looks terrifying.
