During these days, Thai Airways is retiring their last three Airbus 300-600 aircrafts.

As far as I have heard, they will be transferred to other airlines.

Here is a video on youtube commemorating their retirement. THAI's Airbus A300 - Becoming a legend

I have another Thai Airways film of just under 3 minutes to share.

A lot of familiar faces in the clips for me.

The film shows the very inaugural arrival of the very first Thai B-787 Dreamliner at Bangkok on July 18th 2014.

Their first 787 Dreamliner has received the royally bestowed name of "ONGKHARAK".

That and the Boeing 757 are two aircraft not currently in production and ones for which there is no replacement available. How do you move 200+ of passengers over short to medium ranges? In an industry where the exact correct size aircraft is needed for maximum profit there is a pretty big hole in what Airbus and Boeing are offering. Will this hole allow a third manufacturer room to break into the big leagues?

Don't Boeing claim that the 737 Max will pretty much fill that hole?

                    http://www.boeing.com/boeing/commerc...ly/737max.page

The 787s tend to me around 200 seats too don't they? But configured for longer flights.
                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

The Max is a more fuel efficient version of the current 737. It's not a larger aircraft and the recent capacity gains made by the 737-900 are by using thinner seats so they can cram in more rows. Still maxing out at about 180 seats in the most popular 2 class configuration. The 787 is a wide body and carries about a hundred more people, generally around 300, and almost twice the range.

Interesting. I was basing my 787 assumptions on the BA layout which is 35J/25W/154Y (214 seats if my maths is right!) - according to the reviews there's not a lot of space in the aisles at the back.

The 737 / 757 thing I got taken in by the Boeing spiel with - they're quoted as saying that the new 737s replace most of the market filled by 757s at the moment - clearly optimistic in regard to size!! That does explain why sitting in our little bit of the world watching the transatlantic flights and UK to 'the south' (Canaries etc.) going overhead there are plenty of 757s amongst them.

Anyway - that's hugely off thread - apologies!

It looks like you left your heart in Thailand. Hopefully you will be able to ride one of those back for more than just a short visit. Well, not one of those exactly unless you find that shrinking gun from Willy Wonka but a real one would be an acceptable substitute.
